BOARD CLIMB UPDATE (another challenge next Monday and Tuesday!)
Every so often at practice we do something challenging that isn't swimming.  This past Wednesday we challenged some kids to the Diving Board Climb.  The rule is that you start by hanging on the end of the diving board and you must climb up onto the board.  Making this challenge is a sign of good upper body strength.  People who successfully made the climb on this year were -- Jake Hamberger the hard way (Gr. 4), Cory Grzechowiak (Gr. 4), Matt Skrzypczyk (Gr. 4), Laura Skrzypczyk (Gr. 3), Jesse Field (Gr. 4), Alaina Lanthier (gr. 2), Grace Quinlivan (Gr. 2), Kelly Lindner made it the hard way too (Gr. 3), Jennifer Lew (Gr. 3), Jonathan Pilat (Gr. 3), Madisyn Jaszcz (Gr. 3), Mary Lithiluxa (Gr. 3), Kassidy Aiken (Gr. 3), Jack Mendola (Gr. 2.5), Jacob Clark (Gr. 2.5), Christopher Lithiluxa (Gr. 1)..  We also had a family from Detroit swim with us on Wednesday night before Thanksgiving and both girls (Elise and Andrea Batchev).  Congratulations to all of you that have made it!  BOLD are new additions this week.

MARCH SCHEDULE -- Take a Look

GREAT SWIMS AT THE STAR ABC and TWST Snowball meet.
-- Many of our kids have really dropped bunches of time.  A lot of kids had great swims and made new cuts for the end of year meets.  Probably the swim of the STAR ABC was the 50 fly swim by Alexis Oakley who dropped over 10 seconds and went a 43.  Results for Snowball Meet  STAR ABC

GOAL SHEETS STILL ARE DUE.
The coaches have discussed a few things about our goal meetings.  It has been a great experience for the ones that have sat down with the coaches for their goal meetings but it's tough for everyone to get covered so this week we will be having group goal meetings.  On Thursday Group 1/2 will have their meeting at the end of their practice and Group 3/4 will have a group meeting at the beginning of their practice.  Please bring your goal sheets and any questions about your goals.

(1/2/2010) We are all looking forward to a great second half of our season.  We have had a very nice start to the season already and the potential is there so we need to stay focused and on track.  Our groups above 2.5 will be doing goal sheets int he coming weeks to help guide us.  Please make sure you really take them seriously and come up with some great goals!

BOTH MEETS WERE FUN!
Both the Grand Island meet and the annual Christmas mini-meet were a lot of fun.  Thanks to all the parents that helped out on Saturday as well as the paretns that brought in cookies and things for the mini-meet.  And even though all our kids were super crazy on monday - I know all the parents noticed that, they still swam quite well.  And they had tons of fun.  There are a lot of meets coming up in the rest of the year and I encourage everyone to enter as many as possible. And as we get into the rest of the year please stay focused at each practice on improving both your technique as well as your endurance.  And going to the meets is why you all work so hard at practice.  Thanks for a really good first half of the year and it looks like our second half could be even better!!

EAST AURORA MEET WAS AWESOME! (11/9/09)
We had about 35 swimmers go to the meet this past weekend and it was one of the best meets we have ever had.  Even with some DQs which we are still trying to figure out why  (the officials we not able to catch all swimmers or coaches for each DQ because there were so many in the meet) we still had tons and tons of best times.  This year we have been fortunate to make a 2.5 group that comes later from 7-8:15 and those kids have excelled with the extra work (less fun at times) but it's been so worth it for them.  "I kept telling them all the hard work will be worth it and now that they saw their times in a meet, it's great," says Coach Mike O'Connor.  Kassidy Aiken, Andrew Beehler, Robert Breidenstein, Faith Brown, Adam Cavo, Jacob Clark, Ella Clune, Grace Collura, Chris Fritschi, Matt Fritschi, Natalie Halady, Claire Harlach, Madisyn Jaszcz, Samantha Kane, Maria Kubiak, Daniel Lafferty, Alaine Lanthier, Jennifer Lew, Madison Looghnane, Jack Mendola, Jonathan Pilat, Kennedy Pilat, Grace Quinlivan, Rebekah Quinlivan, Caroline Rackl, Molly Rigby, Lucy SanGeorge, Alexis Siebold, Laura Skrzypczyk, and Sam Sperrazza all dropped time in EVERY SINGLE EVENT THEY SWAM!  That is almost every single swimmer, truly a great meet to start off the season.  "Great job everyone, the meet was fun for everyone, we swam fast and all of you got to hang out with each other a little bit at the meet.  That is what makes our sport fun.  Our three assistant coaches (Caitlin Lanigan, Jaime Sciarrino and Megan Bridge) have done a great job with the kids this year.  They have got them to learn quickly and also have fun at practice.  It is of course hard at times, we do a lot of work, both mentally and physically, but when it comes to the meet it is fun to race and drop time.  It makes all that work so worth it," states Coach O'Connor.

EMAILED OUT 10-26-09  - if you do not get emails please send me an email to add your email to the list.

It is very exciting to have so many of our kids signed up for the meets and I think this season has been going very well.  I have been much more involved int he younger kids groups this year and with the help of our other coaches Lan, Jaime and Meg I see that our kids are well on their way to much improvement and much fun.  Each of our coaches bring some different things to the table and even though they are high school swimmers I give them a lot of freedom and it's been nice to see the kids all improving greatly on their balance and also having fun.  We have also had pretty good attendance for our groups which is another great thing to see (even with all the sickness going around).  Just remember that the more practices you can attend the better you will get.  Pretty simple concept but especially when they are young because we do different drills, concepts and activities daily so it's nice for them to see everything and work on all of the stuff we want to accomplish.

If you ever have any questions feel free to email me or try to catch me before or after (quickly due to older kids practice starting) your child's practice.

I believe we will be doing a uniforming get together sometime in the near future to get sweatshirts, t-shirts and other stuff ordered.  I do have some of the blue sharks bags and I also have caps (latex for $5 and Silicone for $14) so just ask me and I can bring them in for you.  Info on the uniforming should be out soon.

** Always remember to pay for your meet entries when you hand me the sheets, this year has been much better but please make sure you give me a check.  Cash is fine as a last minute thing but checks are better.

And when we go to meets please remember to wear a blue suit and especially for girls to buy a sharks cap.  We want to promote our team as well as it looks so awesome when all our kids are hanging out with the same gear on!  Also when we are at meets try to always sit together and hang out.  Meets are fun for a few reasons, the kids get to hang out, talk, joke around and also to swim fast and see why they come to practice.  Competition is fun.
