David Tatum and Matthew Blaszak at the Nassau County Aquatic Center, site of the NY State Swim Meet.
(3/8/09) DAVE AND MATT SWIM WELL AT STATE MEET!! This past weekend two Sharks boys travelled as West Seneca East Boys to Long Island for the NY State Swimming Championships. The Meet was held at the Nassau County Aquatic Center which is one of the best pools in the United States. It has hosted many national and international meets in the past years. Going into the meet Matt Blaszak, after making the meet in his last possible chance – the lead-off of the 400 free relay at Sectionals, was seeded 45th in the State in the 100 freestyle. Matt swam a great race going just .04 seconds over his best time with a 49.18 and moving up to place 31st overall and almost making the finals and just missing the Speedo Championship cut time. East’s breaststroker David Tatum was the other one making the trip and he was swimming the 100 Breaststroke. David was also seeded 45th going into the state meet. David swam a new lifetime best by .29 seconds, new school record and he was also just off the Speedo Championships cut time of 1:02.44. David’s time moved him from 45th to 35th in the State. "Both guys swam awesome. It was a great ending to their careers since both are seniors. It’s sad in a way but it’s just great that they were able to end with some solid swims and moving up 10 and 14 places in the state is amazing," States Coach Mike O'Connor. Matt and Dave will continue swimming now with the West Seneca Sharks club and hope to make plans to swim in college hopefully. They have not made their college choices yet.
(From 1/18/09 - updated 2/25/09) One of our past Shark swimmers and WEST Varsity Swimmer, Amanda Hansen passed away on Saturday morning from Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. "She was a fun person, a great teammate and she will be missed greatly by all her teammates, friends and family." There will be a benefit on March 22nd at Vigilant Fire Hall from 2pm to 6pm. Tickets are on sael for $20 (contact Tina Dalka) The purpose of the benefit is to educate the public to the dangers of caron monoxide as well as raise funds for the Amanda J. Hansen Scholarship Fund. There will be a theme basket raffle, along with "larger items" raffled, multiple 50/50 raffles and door prizes.
(2/9/2009) STAR ABC Meet saw some great times especially from our group 1 and 2 kids. "Our backstrokers did amazing on sunday. It was great to watch," states Coach Mike. Our younger kids this year have been working hard and doing a very nice job at the meets. Look at Meet Results Page.

Kassidy Aiken, waiting for her relay teammate. (1/2009)
(1/25/09) Shark swimmers swim OK at Rochester Senior Championships. 6 girls and 4 boys attended the Senior Meet in Webster NY this past weekend and nice swims were swam by Jacob Hamberger, Matt Partacz, Matt Blaszak and Christopher Davis. Seeing that those are the four boys seems weird but they are in season so we always expect that. The girls that attended did well considering the practice attendance lately. Anne Gunn-Taylor, Taylor Randall, Taylor Whalen, Caitlin Caruana, Caitlin Lanigan and Rachel Webber were the girls that swam well considering. The highlight might have been the Saturday night Catch Phrase and Buzz Word tournament between the Parents (who beat the kids by a lot in buzz word) and the kids (and Coach Mire and Lauren). Mr. Lanigan is crazy smart in those games. Hanging out and watching a movie, ordering pizza is always a good time!! "We need to plan more away meets for all the swimmers in the future. It's a great bonding activity as well and a good way to see other very good swimmers," states Coach Mike. WSCS placed 13th overall at the meet out of 33 teams. 11/21/08 - Turkey Splash was very good for our swimmers!! We had some rough spots, some silly DQs but we're learnign and the kids are very excited for each and every practice still which is the goal. Great job everyone! Results A-L Results M-Z
11/15/08 -- Another great meet for our West Seneca West girls swim team. Write up
(11/1/08) EAST AURORA MEET WAS A VERY GOOD START! 36 of our Shark swimmers signed up for the East Aurora meet held this past wekeend and everyone attendinding swam very well. Many of our first year kids had a lot of fun and swam some great times. Results are posted under Meet results. With so many kids signed up for the meet it was really nice to have a lot of relays which makes it a lot of fun for our kids!!
